Driving Forward Equity in the Music Industry

About Us

Our Story and Our Mission

We are EQTY in Music. Our name expresses our commitment to building a fair, representative and accessible music industry, and reflects the work we’re doing today: bringing together young people and musicians from minoritised backgrounds to unleash talent, ignite lifelong engagement with music, and carve equitable space within the UK music industry.

From our founding story, to who we are today

Over 13 years ago we were founded by Jennie Cashman Wilson in memory of her husband, the Jazz musician Abram Wilson. His belief in the power of music and creativity helped inspire who we are today. Since our beginnings, we have grown to meet the needs of today's young musicians. Our work now reaches beyond one individual story – we’re tackling structural barriers in the music industry and driving long-term equity. What hasn’t changed is our belief in music as a force for opportunity and connection.

Our new name EQTY in Music expresses our commitment to building a fair, representative and accessible music industry. It reflects the work we’re doing today: bringing together young people and musicians from minoritised backgrounds to unleash talent, ignite lifelong engagement with music, and carve equitable space within the UK music industry.
